The 2015 Nissan Murano is a versatile and stylish family vehicle, making it a very popular choice among drivers in the Homosassa area. And while there are a number of other competitive mid-size SUVs on the market, the Murano’s impressive base trim specs really help it to stand above its peers. Let’s take a look at how it compares to the base 2015 Kia Sorento.

Engine and Transmission

The Murano comes equipped with a 3.5 DOHC V6 engine whereas the Sorento only offers a 2.4 DOHC 4-cylinder engine in its base trim. Because of this, the Murano produces 69 more hp and 59 lb-ft more torque than the Sorento.

The 2015 Murano also features a continuously variable transmission (CVT) standard on all trims. The CVT allows for a smoother ride, heightened fuel efficiency, and the ability to maintain peak horsepower indefinitely. The Sorento does not come equipped with a CVT at any trim level.

Fuel Economy

According to tests conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency, the 2015 Nissan Murano gets superior gas mileage compared to the 2015 Kia Sorento. The 2WD V6 Murano receives 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Comparatively, the 2WD V6 Sorento gets 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

Not only does the Murano offer a more powerful engine standard on base trims, it conserves fuel more efficiently than the Sorento.

Ergonomics

The 2015 Nissan Murano offers a greater variety of standard features than the 2015 Kia Sorento. Notably, the Murano comes equipped with an automatic headlight on/off feature that turns on headlights at dusk and turns them off after sunrise. The Sorento offers this feature at an extra cost to the consumer.

The base model Murano also has a standard dual zone air conditioning to maximize the comfort of all passengers. The Kia Sorento offers dual zone air conditioning only on EX/SX/Limited trim levels.
